1911 names!
I was inspired by Heather and her 1990’s name list, this is slightly older though! When we were trying to trace our family tree we came across some interesting names on the 1911 census we searched.
These are some of the more unique names we stumbled across (okay, when I say stumbled, I actually mean that I delved in, I found it very interesting!)
Boys:
Herry
Urban - Age 14 in 1911!
King
Austen
Bynon
Camping - I guess that some of these are after family surnames? Camping!
Dophis
Emmerson
Esther - This was a boy
Fidgeon
****
Jervis
Nutter - A middle name
Valentine
Herekiah
Norah - Again a boy
Reuben
Lancelot
Eustace
Guy
Lewis
Courtney
Rosemann
Estrange
Girls:
Drusilla
Lavinia
William - Yes, a little girl!
Mary Ann Mann Smith - Her middle names were Ann Mann!
Nicholls - a fn, a variation of Nicole?
Elise
Evelyn
Goodie
Kezia
Rosalie
Dazie
Elissebeth and Elizbarth - maybe crazy spellings aren't a new trend? (Or their parents were illiterate, I'm not sure)
England
Louesia
Rosetter
Cariline
Catholine - A mash up name! Catherine and Caroline.
Elinda
Sarah Scott Tyson - Two boys names!
Estelle
Hamah
Lezzia
Sabina
What do you think?

Re: 1911 names!
Boys:
Herry - Sort of a combo between Harry & Kerry. NMS
Urban - Age 14 in 1911! - Sounds like a name someone might actually use today.
King - Sounds like a dog's name.
Austen - They were waaaaay ahead of their time! Nice name.
Bynon - Sort of like Byron? Don't like it.
Camping - I guess that some of these are after family surnames? Camping! - Or after their favorite hobby. Pretty weird.
Dophis - Oh my
Emmerson - Probably a surname. Didn't like it when I saw it for a certain BNG member's daughter, but not bad on a boy.
Esther - This was a boy - Poor thing
Fidgeon - Reminds me of pigeon
G a y - I think I have heard of this as a name before, but it definitely wouldn't work in this day and age.
Jervis - Yuck
Nutter - A middle name As in Nutter Butter cookies?
Valentine - This was Ariella's grandfather's name. Her dad wanted to use it as a mn if she was a boy. Uh, no.
Herekiah - Biblical maybe? There was a Hezekiah in my family tree.
Norah - Again a boy - Odd for a boy, but not overly feminine.
Reuben - Not bad
Lancelot - A good pet name. I like Lance better.
Eustace - NMS
Guy - Kind of like it.
Lewis - NMS
Courtney - I had heard that this used to be a boy's name. Funny how things change. Def. prefer it on a girl.
Rosemann - NMS
Estrange - Word name, as in "cause to stop being friendly". Wonder what the poor kid did to end up with that moniker.
Girls:
Drusilla - Ugh. Prefer Priscilla.
Lavinia - NMS
William - Yes, a little girl! - Poor thing. Maybe they wanted a son and never got one.
Mary Ann Mann Smith - Her middle names were Ann Mann! - Odd; at least she had a normal first name.Nicholls - a fn, a variation of Nicole? - Too masculine.
Elise - OK
Evelyn - OK
Goodie - Is this like naming your child Candy or Cookie?
Kezia - NMS
Rosalie - Not a fan, but not bad
Dazie - OK
Elissebeth and Elizbarth - maybe crazy spellings aren't a new trend? (Or their parents were illiterate, I'm not sure) - Love the traditional spelling. Not sure why they messed with it.
England - Way ahead of their time! They caught on to the naming children after places trend long before it became popular!
Louesia - Alternate spelling of Louisa? Never liked that name.
Rosetter - Not very feminine
Cariline - Fine name, but prefer traditional spelling.
Catholine - A mash up name! Catherine and Caroline. A tongue-twister.
Elinda - Interesting. Not sure what I think.
Sarah Scott Tyson - Two boys names! - Like Sarah, but what's up with the rest? Family names, I guess?Estelle - Sounds old-ladyish now, but was probably very fashionable then.
Hamah - Makes me think of the Palestinian terror organization.
Lezzia - This would have some unfortunate nicknames nowadays.
Sabina - Not bad
Really funny how trends change over time!
